Are Men Killing Themselves?

Two doctors, using a Tesla as a “man-magnet,” drive cross country to get men to pay more attention to their health.

Sijo Parekattil, MD, recently saved the life of a 25-year-old man. Actually, he says, credit goes to the man’s girlfriend who dragged him to the doctor.

“She took him out of work, dragged him in there, and essentially saved his life,” Dr. Parekattil says. The man had testicular cancer. “The sad thing is: If you catch these guys early enough, we can cure them,” he says. “If we catch them late, then the outcome is not as good.”

Every doctor knows (and numerous studies confirm) that women are more vigilant than men about their own health and about the health of their families.

Parekattil and his colleague Jamin Brahmbhatt, MD, both urologists, decided they needed to do something about it. Their health practice, Orlando Health in Florida had commissioned a nationwide survey of men. It found that more than 80 percent of men could name the make and model of their first car, but just half could remember the last time they had been to the doctor.

Those results gave Parekattil and Brahmbhatt an idea. They got the coolest car they could think of – the all-electric Tesla Model S – and they hit the road……
